    What HN said

The book that the author wrote "Don't Trust Your Gut : Using Data to Get What You Really Want in Life" ( https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58490565-don-t-trust-you... ) is well worth a read.

There is also a good podcast episode with an interview by Steven Levitt with the author ( https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/75-self-help-for-data-... )

It might be of interest to HN types because it's essentially using loads of data to see what helps people.

There are huge geopolitical forces fighting to preserve the Amazon. The cost of deforestation is quantified and states pay millions if not billions (I forget the numbers) to people in order to leave it untouched.

Of course, it's political and 'we're not doing enough,' etc. but individuals have more influence over the Amazon than most things.

Great podcast on the subject: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/people-i-mostly-admire...

Related to this topic is a conversation Steve Levitt had the other day with Moncef Slaoui, who has been a scientific lead for "Operation Warp Speed": https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/moncef-slaoui-its-unfo...
