    Bury, Stephen · 1994

A political thriller about a presidential candidate who suffers a stroke and as part of a new therapy has a chip implanted in his brain. The chip enables him to do many extraordinary things, such as sense the mood of the voters. Only problem is the chip is controlled by some nasty people.

As captured in the classic Neal Stephenson and George Jewsbury novel (released under the pen name Stephen Bury) “Interface”.

Democracy hasn’t functioned as it was “intended” for, well, ever. It was never alive to be killed, which makes this useless handwringing.

Try Zodiac and Interface (authored under the co-pseudonym Stephen Bury).

You might like the plot of the (pseudonymous Neal Stephenson collaboration novel), "Interface", by Stephen Bury. There's definitely a parallel to what you're describing applied to politics.

The Interface is a criminally underrated book. Same with the Cobweb, under written by him under the pseudonym Stephen Bury.

This title may be relatively well-known among the HN crowd, but Interface by Stephen Bury aka Neal Stephenson is an amazingly prescient read. I find it Stephenson's most insightful and critical work that reflects contemporary America.

Beckwitt's alias "3AlarmLampscooter" is a reference to the excellent novel "Interface" by Neal Stephenson and George Jewsbury (previously published under the pen names Stephen Bury or J. Frederick George).

Coincidentally (?), the phrase occurs in the novel shortly before a politician is evacuated from the capitol building through a secret Cold-War-era civil defense tunnel.
