    The Visual Miscellaneum

    David McCandless · 2012

    classic has been revised and updated! A colorful guide to the world's most consequential trivia, Visual Miscellaneum by David McCandless is a reference book like no other. It now includes 18 all new graphs and 23 updated ones. It helps us make sense of our world by putting the data we are bombarded with every day -- health findings, technological advances, cultural touch points, war statistics -- into creative visual perspective. Like Show Me How by Lauren Smith and Schott's Miscellany, only more complete and satisfying, Visual Miscellaneum is a treat for the mind and the eye. Using cutting edge graphs, charts, and illustrations, author David McCandless creatively visualizes the world's most surprising relationships and compelling data. - Publisher.

      This is a great list. David McCandless' recent book The Visual Miscellaneum does not quite fit in with these books - it's not instructional and has no "theory". But it's a beautiful book full of great examples of data visualization, enough to get any designer's creative juices flowing. I highly recommend it.

      Check out his book, Visual Miscellaneum. Not all visualizations are good, overall its a nice book though.

      Unfortunately, InformationIsBeautiful.net basically exists to be an advertisement for the author's book, The Visual Miscellaneum. Which is a very pretty book--I own it--but not really full of informative infographics. There's some original content in the blog, but far too much of it is reposts of graphics from the book.

      For a better (or at least more varied) selection of infographics I like:

      * Chart Porn (http://chartporn.org/)

      * Flowing Data (http://flowingdata.com/) which also covers datavis software

      * Information Aesthetics (http://infosthetics.com/)
