    All-star Superman

Grant Morrison, Frank Quietly · 2007

From the inside jacket: The last son of the doomed planet Krypton rocketed to Earth. A sci-fi savior raised in America's heartland; embracing and embraced by what's best in humanity. Lex Luthor, the criminal mastermind misguided by his own personal shortcomings. Lois Lane, the dynamic investigative reporter who reminds you that there are enigmas in life that baffle even Superman. You've seen it before. Now see it again as though for the first time. Not an origin story, modernization, or reinvention--but instead a timeless and iconic presentation refined by the passion and craft of master storytellers, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN presents a unique and elegant interpretation of the original and most recognizable of all superheroes.

Not really. Read All Star Superman for a great example of how you can have a story be about the fantastical and make it very human.

That story is about Superman basically becoming overexposed to sunlight in a way that makes him progressively more powerful (than Superman was already), but it is also going to kill him.

It is about what a man like that might do when he knows he is going to die and a lot of it is Superman's connection with people.

First off, they lack imagination only because he's almost 100 years old by now. That's like saying Zeus is an unimaginative god because controlling lighting is so overdone now.

Also, it means you haven't really read any great Superman stories. In the last 10-15 years, there have been many amazing stories centering around Superman. All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely is probably top of the list.

Also, look at the Injustice 2 video game for a new take on Superman, my jaw dropped at how they took Superman off the edge.

      While we're at it.

If you want to read some great, inspirational, and easy-to-get-into story about Superman, read All Star Superman by Grant Morrison.

I also loved Superman-Batman by Jeph Loeb. But it's way more... action comic-bookey.
