Alexander Rose of the Long Now Foundation describes the design and construction of the 10,000 year clock conceived by Danny Hillis. He covers the project's history, methods, and how different cultures built things to last millennia.

Recommended in threads about long-lasting structures and passing knowledge across generations, as a long but fascinating talk.

As you probably know, the Long Now foundation has wrestled with the problem of extended time period preservation of physical buildings. In the video linked below, they discuss how ancient people attempted to carry knowledge through the generations. Some of my favorites: the stone markers for the high water mark of Tsunamis, and the temple that is physically rebuilt in exact duplicate every 20 years. this video

This team should collaborate with the makers of the Clock of the Long Now ( [LINK] ), another device intended to last thousands of years. There is a discussion of their research into various methods pursued by different cultures over the centuries to pursue similar goals, see video here: this video

it's extremely difficult to build waterproof subterranean buildings, especially if they're built into permafrost (which seems these days to be more like tempofrost). this very long but fascinating video discusses it: this video
