Not Just Bikes explains the Dutch concept of autoluw, or nearly car-free, streets and how it is applied across the Netherlands, with examples from Toronto and Copenhagen. It also covers Amsterdam's move toward a nearly car-free city.

HN commenters share it as a good overview of car-light street design and its effects in discussions of car-centric cities and the 15-minute city.

I think I’ve seen this in a few places, there’s one source in particular I’m thinking of that I can’t seem to find but here are some: The positive impact of car-free streets on businesses during COVID: [LINK] Good overview about autoluw streets and the effects they have: this video …though as the video states, autoluw doesn’t mean completely car-free. I tend to agree that it’s probably the best balance rather than eliminating all cars from the area.

100% agree. If anyone is interested here is great video on [Autoluw]( this video ). This is what US needs, but I dont see this happening due america's car-centric culture.

It was interesting for me to learn how this process happened in Copenhagen and Groningen in the 1960s and 1970s—people were angry, they protested, made death threats.[0] So it seems like re-pedestrianising areas has always made some people very angry everywhere, and that anger may not be so unique or significant a barrier as it might initially seem.
