    Anansi Boys

    Neil Gaiman · 2005

Anansi Boys is a fantasy novel by English writer Neil Gaiman. In the novel, "Mr. Nancy" — an incarnation of the West African trickster god Anansi — dies, leaving twin sons, who in turn discover one another's existence after being separated as young children. The novel follows their adventures as they explore their common heritage. Although it is not a sequel to Gaiman's previous novel American Gods, the character of Mr. Nancy appears in both books. Anansi Boys was published on 20 September 2005 and was released in paperback on 1 October 2006. The book debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list, and won both the Locus Award and the British Fantasy Society Award in 2006.

One of my all-time favorite novels, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, includes an anecdote: a crow's call wakes up someone who's sleeping outdoors, just as a large cat (a tiger, perhaps) is sneaking up on him.

One character suggests the crow was trying to warn the man. Another posits the bird was bringing the sleeper to the tiger's attention so it could enjoy the scraps after the meal.

If you like high quality books, Folio Society editions are difficult to beat. I some recent releases bought direct and some older ones from Ebay at home. Neil Gaiman's American Gods and Anansi Boys are particularly lovely, great feeling paper, amazing illustrations, the cover design is incredible, and of course the typography is top notch. From the older releases, I have a few history books - like the history of Enigma machine, 700 year old biography Chenghiz Khan, and a book about Silk Road.

From some of the more recent books, check out the Strugatsky brothers famous https://www.foliosociety.com/row/roadside-picnic.html, also available in 500 copies limited edition for a lot more. So want!

I need more book shelf space.

#1-4 are: Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson, The Cyberiad, by Stanisław Lem, and The Aleph, by Jorge Luis Borges, and Anansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman. In no particular order.

I found the audiobook to be a superior experience to reading the book as well. It think PHM is an excellent primer on that type of SF for someone who hasn’t read something like it before. My daughter, who never reads hard SF, loved the audiobook.

I once commented on Twitter that the Anansi Boys audiobook read by Lenny Henry was better than the book. Neil Gaiman responded, “I agree”.

Let's say yes. Can Amazon invent a better compression scheme that uses phonemes & UTF-8 text as a cue? Say, something that compactly expresses Neil Gaiman's voice, then just shows the text of Anansi Boys?
