Highly recommend Apollo by Blythe Cox and Murray. Tremendous engineering history of the Apollo program, and really makes you appreciate the numerous folks and terrific stories that all had to come together to make it happen.

I lucked into this in my high school library, and need to re-read it. I've read a lot of books on Apollo, this is one of the best.

FWIW, my other favorite is 'Apollo: Race to the Moon', Murray and Cox, which focuses on the engineering and management effort, and the politics, behind Apollo. Their discussion of the development of the F-1 engine in the Saturn V's first stage is amazing, among dozens of technical and managerial excellencies.

Not a film, but 'Apollo: Race to the Moon' by Murray and Cox is a book covering the engineering and management efforts that went into Apollo, and is the closest, most interesting and entertaining thing I've found that is similar in spirit to the LEM episode of 'From the Earth to the Moon.'

I would recommend _Apollo_ by Charles Murray and Catherine Bly Cox. It covers the program from the perspective of the engineers who were involved and the technical problems they had to overcome. The book is currently out of print but is available for the Kindle.

Not totally what you are looking for, but I'd highlghly recommend "Apollo" by Murray and Cox. It focuses on the engineering history of the Apollo program, and it is a superbly well written and researched worked and so many of the stories are about engineering philosophy that I think it'll really be worth your while.

There is a great chapter on the F1's engineering and development in 'Apollo: Race To The Moon', Murray and Cox. The whole book focuses on the engineering and management challenges involved in putting a man on the moon and returning him safely in one decade.
