   The book, as it pertains to the story we're commenting on, was in the adult section of the Jamestown library. Your comment repeatedly uses the word "parents" as if the Jamestown library was promoting it to children.

   Another book that is promoted to children that includes explicit discussion of sexuality, and that has been challenged by the parents you're talking about, is the Diary of Anne Frank.

   I don't think "Gender Queer" belongs in school libraries. I do think the Diary of Anne Frank belongs in school libraries. Can you offer an argument that acknowledges that? I'm skeptical.

   I read the following 3 in this order and it definitely co-incided with a change in my life for the better:

   * A confession and other religious stories by Leo Tolstoy * Happiness by Matthieu Ricard (a counter argument against French philosophers who believe happiness doesn't exist) * The Diary of Anne Frank * A Life Interrupted by Etty Hillesum (the most beautiful book I will ever read)

   The books I've chosen over the last year seem to unintentionally have had the common theme of survival under miserable situations. Man's search for meaning, Diary of Anne Frank, Alive!, When breath becomes air, and Blueprint for armageddon podcasts I-VI, are some of them. While providing strategies for living the day to day, they also provide valuable perspective and have made things seem just not so bad after all. Otherwise focus on sleep and exercise have been extremely important for managing what has been the most stressful year of my life.

   Oh boy, you fucked up now. Here are the books I read this past year that I felt were "Good", starting from the most recent :

   To Kill A Mocking Bird (Insanely good)

   True Grit (Insanely good)

   The Little Friend (Good)

   Priceless (Very good, about art theft)

   The Secret History (Insanely good)

   Ready Player One (Good, nerdy)

   Shadow Divers (Very good, history nerd book)

   Diary of Anne Frank (Very good)

   Unbroken (Very good, way better than the movie)

   With The Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa (Very good)

   Seveneves (good, but I'm a Stephenson fanboy)

   The Martian (Very good, but just watch the movie).

   I read a bunch of other stuff, but that's what I found really "good" this past year.
