I wanna recommend this book again: Practical Microservices: Build Event-Driven Architectures with Event Sourcing and CQRS https://smile.amazon.com/dp/1680506455/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gl...

This is the only practical book on event sourcing and cqrs I have ever seen.

After hearing about it all the time on HN I had never seen an actual implementation of it, this book uses JS so its easy to understand for any software engineer.

I really like this book on CQRS & ES: https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Microservices-Event-Driven-...

It’s a really practical treatment of CQRS & ES with JS examples. I had heard about CQRS & ES on HN for years but I had never seen any system that actually used it or any practical examples so this book is amazing cause it takes you through how to build a system using them.

I don't know if linking to one's own work is considered gauche here, but since it fits with the original question, my own book Practical Microservices fits this description (https://pragprog.com/book/egmicro/practical-microservices). It takes the reader from inception of a projection to a functioning system, explaining the basics of microservices, event sourcing, and CQRS along the way. Each chapter builds on the previous ones.

I'm going to spoil: Practical Microservices will cover synchronous communication with both HTTP and AMQP (RabbitMQ and friends), as well as async with AMQP.

Among other benefits sync over AMQP provides is the fact that you don't really need a service discovery mechanism because interested service will find & serve your request itself. It also means that you won't need to put the services behind a firewall or implement some sort of inter-service auth (when firewall isn't an option, read: Heroku), because nothing is exposed to the web.

Will definitely get into it more deeply in Practical Microservices. Stay tuned!
