The Rational Male - Rollo Tomassi.

I know it likely going to be a hated example, but nonetheless I strongly suggest to read it if you are confused or unsure about certain aspects of relationships.

If you want a current summary of the current dating landscape if you've been off the market for a while, check out The Rational Male books. it's a bit evo psychy but it seems to do a good job of summarizing everything.

Any young man who is confused should read this series: https://www.amazon.com/Rational-Male-Rollo-Tomassi/dp/149277...

It will give you peace of mind and it will take away that "wtf?!" anxiety you feel (in time; it's not immediate so be patient). Just read the books and consider the ideas, don't get sucked into the manosphere bs (there are a lot of idiots who grift on these ideas—the only guy who actually backs up his points is the author of this series).

I think different parents have different goals, so probably the best is to read a bunch of books and pick out the ones you like.

I highly recommend reading "The Rational Male" (book). Besides other valuable insights it will give you a good understanding of what you describe here as "groupthink" and "secret pact".
