Which RTP startup people are active HNers besides you and javery?

I know there are more of us here, but I don't know everyone's HN username. Offhand I can think of kacyf (works with javery at AdZerk)
      http://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=kacy

      and Corey from Blinkness: http://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=Cblinks

I know there are others, I just can't tell you who they are on here, from memory.

What about interface and ux design talent in the area? Anyone notable?

A lot of the folks that work at Viget Labs are pretty sharp on UI and UX. We had a great UX team assembled at Lulu.com at one time, but unfortunately that team got broken up, some people moved away, some people went to other companies, and some people I just plain lost touch with. But yeah, there are some UI/UX people here who do some nice work.

When is the next decent event between now and the 21st?

Hmmm... we've had a flurry of stuff just in the last few days, so I'm not sure what else is going on this month. Let me glance at some calendars and I'll post an update later. Or maybe somebody else will have something "on the tip of their tongue" so to speak.

Those who refer to it as a technical limitation are almost certainly wrong.

Remington-Rand released a 90-column punched cards, for example, two years after the famous 80-column IBM card. But IBM equipment dominated the market, and their cards became "standard." https://historyofpunchcards.wordpress.com/2014/03/24/rivalry-remington-rand-vs-ibm/

Eg, Univac used the 90-column format. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card#Powers/Remington_Rand_UNIVAC_90-column_punched_card_format

FWIW, the recommendation of 72 characters seems much more a programming standard than a general readability standard. For example, quoting from https://www.viget.com/articles/the-line-length-misconception/ quoting from "Bringhurst's authoritative The Elements of Typographic Style".

      > Anything from 45 to 75 characters is widely-regarded as a satisfactory length of line for a single-column page set in a serifed text face in a text size. The 66-character line (counting both letters and spaces) is widely regarded as ideal

A side note about that website. Thin and Extra-Thin fonts have no place in web design (there are some exceptions in huge title text). They are an unnecessary burden for people with limited eyesight and elderly people[1]. Even for me, on my 1366x768 screen (which is still the single most common resolution for cheap notebooks, dear HiDPI web designers[2]), the bullet text is hardly readable, the copyright line is completely unreadable. This effect is made even worse by choosing inadequate contrasts[3]. One can use subtle colors for increased contrast.[4]
