Mario Zechner is the creator of the libGDX game framework and writes about Java game development, mobile tooling and Android quirks.
HN commenters link it for libGDX roadmap updates, notes on RoboVM and Xamarin, and an explanation of touch event flooding on mobile.
If I could possibly offer an alternative to MonoGame, perhaps try libgdx game framework with MonoTouch. Libgdx is a very well developed framework for Java, but the creator has also put together guides on how to use it with Monotouch.

There was also a discussion about using J2objc (http://code.google.com/p/j2objc/) in order to port it to iOS: http://www.badlogicgames.com/wordpress/?p=2593
Speaking of RoboVM, sounds like it is making very good progress [1]. And can't beat its price of free.
LibGDX is using RoboVM these days instead of Xamarin, due to the price. Also anecdotally they found RoboVM runs even faster than Xamarin [2], despite being a young project.

Touch gestures generate a ton of events, specially in early versions. The most common fix is sleeping for a few ms in the UI thread. http://www.badlogicgames.com/wiki/index.php/Touch_Event_Flooding
Cool! libGDX works nice with RoboVM, so you can port the game to iOS too.

LibGDX has a plan however - move to Intel Multi-OS Engine
