    1. @nmrtnSep 2024· in “Ideas to make money as solo dev”

I highly recommend checking out this podcast with Peter Levels : this video With the rise of AI and automation tools, solo developers now have more 'brain' and 'production power' at their disposal, allowing them to tackle more complex projects without needing a big team. It might give you some insights into how to approach your project and how to leverage AI tools to enhance your development process. Definitely worth a listen!

    2. @jll29Feb 2025· in “My Life in Weeks”

In this Lex Fiedman video, they talk about how life is short, and a visualization as a spreadsheet is shown that makes one very concerned: Pieter Levels: Programming, Viral AI Startups, and Digital Nomad Life | Lex Fridman Podcast #440 this video [ironically, the podcast is very long - over 3 hours - speaking of not wasting time, but after initial annoyance I'm glad I watched it all.] The positive insight that can come out of that is use every week and don't waste it, and and if you can, move your long-term dreams closer to the here and now. I made a version of that spreadsheet for "the rest of my life" to hand it into my office as a reminder. (Even if I will live until 90, it fits my laptop screen without scrolling...)

    3. @nomilkJan 2026· in “OpenAI is rolling out age prediction”

This could have the unintended consequence of encouraging under-agers to ask more 'adult' questions in order to try to trick it into thinking they're an adult. Analogous to the city that wanted to get rid of rats, so offered a bounty for every dead rat, and to the surprise of nobody except policy makers, the city ended up with more rats, not less. (lesson: they thought they were incentivising less rats, but unintentionally incentivised more) The padding in OpenAI's statement is easy to see through: > The model looks at a combination of behavioral and account-level signals, including how long an account has existed, typical times of day when someone is active, usage patterns over time, and a user’s stated age. (the only real signal here is 'usage patterns' - AKA the content of conversations - the other variables are obfuscation to soften the idea that OpenAI will be pouring over users' private conversations to figure out if they're over/under age.). Worth also noting 'neutered' AI models tend to be less useful. Example: Older Stable Diffusion models were preferred over newer, neutered models: this video

Very much agreed on a lot of the points there, and on that note, how new frameworks market to developers is probably a great lesson in that. Pieter Levels (of nomadlist.com and similar fame) recently talked about it on a podcast, how he basically sticks to PHP and jQuery, and how often he sees developers jumping on a new framework, not realizing it's likely a marketing tactic that's pulling them in. Time-stamped to that part of the podcast, roughly 2 minutes of relevant answer: this video The part that feels most like the advice above: "And same thing what happens with nutrition and fitness or something, same thing happens in developing. They pay this influencer to promote this stuff, use it, make stuff with it, make demo products with it, and then a lot of people are like, “Wow, use this.” And I started noticing this, because when I would ship my stuff, people would ask me, “What are you using?” I would say, “Just PHP, jQuery. Why does it matter?” And people would start attacking me like, “Why are you not using this new technology, this new framework, this new thing?”

I got inspired by a conversation between Pieter Levels and Lex Friedman ( this video ), talking about what they listen to while programming. Let me know what you think!
