A Not the Nine O'Clock News sketch that satirizes the controversy around Monty Python's Life of Brian.
Mentioned as the sketch many Britons remember in discussions of the Life of Brian controversy.

Like most people at the time, it was the Not the Nine O'Clock News skit that everyone knew of and were talking about afterwards. I only saw the cringe worthy debate when it was repeated, some time after Mel Smith's far more mature debate. :) this video Muggeridge and the bishop sounded incredibly pompous and anachronistic, even in 1979. The Catholic church particularly organised a fabulous publicity campaign for the Pythons. Every few days yet another fossilised Arch something-or-other relic turned up in the news to complain of a film they hadn't even watched. I thought Meaning of Life carefully directed at ridiculous Papal edicts and Catholic dogma, vs equally ridiculous CofE flavoured Protestantism, rather than anything against Christianity itself. It was wildly heretical - against the church, but not blasphemous. And had the Galaxy Song, so should have been far more successful than it was. :)
Linux: let's bump the major version just because Python: for the love of God [1] don't touch the version I wonder if the scar tissue will ever heal and we'll see a Python 4 in two decades. 1: this video
There was quite a good sketch by Not The Nine O'Clock News which reversed that debate, in which the film The Life of Christ is accused of parodying the revered Monty Python. this video
