> People are scared of nuclear energy. "But the people are retarded." [1]. "The proximate cause of the disaster was the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, which occurred on the afternoon of 11 March 2011 and *remains the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan*. The earthquake triggered a powerful tsunami, with 13–14-meter-high waves damaging the nuclear power plant's emergency diesel generators, leading to a loss of electric power. The result was the most severe nuclear accident since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, classified as level seven on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) [...] and thus joining Chernobyl as the only other accident to receive such classification. [...] the INES ranks incidents by impact on population, so Chernobyl (335,000 people evacuated) and Fukushima (154,000 evacuated) [...]" [2] Man, nuclear's weak. Worst two disasters end with just a few dozen people dead at most and merely a ton of economical damage? A single dam failure and you've got 100 thousand people dead. Coal alone kills 100 thousand people a year. Nuclear needs to step it up. [1]: this video [2]: [LINK]
> Though why do you Americans put up with all this? I have heard the US is a democracy. So then insurance-based healthcare is what American people truly want? It's because our politicians are largely owned by our corporations and spend a ridiculous amount of money protecting their interests [1]. We almost had a public option with the original "Obamacare", but it was forced out of the bill [2]. Also, just turn on Fox News for an evening and realize it's been the number one news channel in the US for 20-something years. They've been a right wing corporate propaganda machine for a long time, all while brilliantly portraying themselves as the "underdog" fighting the mainstream media. Americans aren't very educated and take pride in their ignorance, unfortunately. [3] [1] [LINK] [2] [LINK] [3] this video
for such a wide ranging effects, brexit's vote had only 2% margin of error, with 48% against. The people's stupidity is why "important" questions like that should not be put to a vote; they can't be expected to understand the entirety of the outcome and consequences. As the other comment has posted: this video
I thought you were referencing this: this video > people don’t want what they want Which makes the opposite point, funny enough. Who is the “they”
this video Not all people. But look what happened to Reddit. Started as mostly coders now its slowly being turned into another content machine.
