Short HD closeup of a Tesla Model S battery swap, showing the pack lowered out and another pushed into place.
Linked as visual evidence that the Model S supported battery swapping whenever swap stations come up.

Tesla batteries can be swaped. They have a video showing it, and a single station doing it, but there is no need for it atm. Ive been driving my Model S for 2+ years now, and the charging options are plenty. Link to video of battery swap this video
Battery swap station: this video I'm not sure why this is a not reality yet. When this happens, I will certainly not be the one refuelling my car at -30C in the winter, I will be seated in my electric car waiting for the swap to complete.
It's unfortunate the video quality is so poor. Surely this should be a marketing boon for Tesla. You'd think they'd put more effort in. Edit: This is better quality: this video Edit2: An even better video: [LINK] (thnx jlgreco)
This has been tried, in fact the original Tesla Model s had a swappable batteries[1], but it has never worked for a variety of reasons. [1]: this video
They did a live demo: [LINK] Here's a closeup video where you can see the battery pack being lowered and another being pushed into place: this video
