dune is quite weird compared to many other build tools, but once you learn how it works it's actually quite simple. opam is a pain in the ass but it's definitely being improved steadily and I've had better experiences with it recently. janestreet core seems more stable now than it has in the past but there are occasionally still some breaking changes. They aren't hard to keep up with if you update with each core release though (only like ~1 for my project in the past year or so). There's also a community movement to work a lot more on the ocaml platform and I'm super excited for this work [1] to get through the pipeline! Especially promising is the work on replacing ocamldoc (which sucks) with odoc (which looks great!). While I think work on the ocaml platform will take some time to come to fruition, the approach they are going for is super empathetic and I wholeheartedly agree with their approach for every facet of the ocaml ecosystem -- build tools, doc generation, lsp, editor integration, opam evolution, and all the stability guarantees they're gradually adding. Really exciting time to invest in ocaml! [1] this video

Yes, it does. However a lot of it is driven by long-time ecosystem contributors and they generally work somewhat behind the scenes, presenting on the progress ~annually at conferences like ICFP. Here's the latest progress report, in case you're interested: this video Now this is not the same language/community improvement system that many popular projects nowadays use, but OCaml has been stewarded in its way for a few years now, and it's something the contributors feel is sustainable given the size of the project and the resources available. About Unicode specifically, there is of course support at the library level as you mentioned (the most well-known library is Camomile), but to try to justify not including it in the language distribution itself, to a certain extent many applications just don't need it. Those that do can of course use libraries, but many (say, backend servers) don't really need to process Unicode strings, they just need to shovel bytes from point A to point B and not actually touch the contents.

    3. @ivg_tAug 2020· in “OCaml Workshop 2020 Online Conference is live now”

The workshop is hosted by the ICFP conference so you need to register there, which is probably too late. But all the videos are available online and you can post questions in the OP link to Discuss, we will try to forward it to the workshop and later post the Q&A session on our channel (so subscribe) this video
