A short Microsoft promo comparing classic Teams with the rewritten new Teams side by side, claiming faster startup and better performance. The new version is shown taking around nine seconds to launch.
Not recommended; it is cited mockingly as an example of software bloat and of Microsoft calling a slow startup fast.

I think certain developers don't care because they don't even understand programming on a lower level nor they understand hardware. As a sysadmin that really grinds me gears. These days, developers have no shame - even Microsoft shows Teams was a utter piece of garbage with both memory and cpu usage this video . Are they even serious with 22 second loading on a modern hardware and multiple gigabytes of memory usage for a stupid chat app? We still use laptops that have 8GB of RAM in our company for positions like HR, marketing and others and the fact that Teams and couple of browser tabs can totally kill their PCs is insane. Laptop manufacturers haven't caught up to the news and they still charge premium for 32GB machines, while 8GB is no longer sufficient for anything and 16GB should be the baseline these days. And of course this is not just Teams but many other applications. Too bad most users don't understand the issue and think that something is wrong with their computers. Regular users are not great testers. Testing used to be a dedicated job... Anyway I think there should be a lot more pressure on developers to use our current hardware more efficiently
Startup time is very important Some apps get poorly reviewed due to slow startup time Also 3sec on your dev machine = 10sec on regular machines Don't be like Microsoft, don't pretend 9 seconds is fast startup time :) this video "10MinuteMail shared how they used GraalVM and Spring Boot 3 to reduce their startup time from ~30 s down to about 3 ms, and memory usage from 6.6 GB down to 1 GB, with the same throughput and CPU utilization." And that was just the install process. Soon you'll start using it and you'll quickly come to despise anything Windows-related. A good tangent is this absolutely marvelous video put out by the Microsoft Teams people, where they compare the performance of the "classic" version to the brand-new version. A sight to behold: this video
there's that hilarious video where they boast the complete rewrite only takes 9 seconds to open and only 1.2 seconds to switch chats this video what is it even doing? both should be instant mIRC opened instantly on a 1995 PC
I'm reminded of the Teams team making a comparison video between their old and new versions, which only went to show that the new version was also really slow (9 seconds). this video
