Destin Sandlin of Smarter Every Day documents boarding a US Navy nuclear submarine in the Arctic during the ICEX 2020 under-ice exercise. It is the first of a series on life aboard a fast attack submarine.
Recommended in submarine threads as the start of an access-rich series on life aboard a US fast attack sub.

The youtube channel smarter every day is doing a series about live aboard a nuclear attack sub (different class than the one in the article, Los Angeles class IIRC) during an exercise where they navigate under ice, called ICEX. which might be of interest if you like this article. It's obviously propaganda but it is very interesting nonetheless. actual submarine part: [LINK] the leadup and context surrounding the exercise: this video
If you found this post at all interesting you will enjoy Destin's series on Smarter Every Day spending time on a US fast attack submarine talking to everyone and poking at lots of weird corners: this video
In the first video in the series Destin himself says the Navy did not pay him. this video I do recall him mentioning his own biases and conflicts of interest at some point but I don’t recall what series that was a part of.
