I think it's nice to add some juice to website/apps but they are not games and I think should be kept at a minimum. Know your audience. I don't want any of my finance related apps full of unnecessary juice, but that doesn't mean I don't want feedback for any processes I'm waiting for. Sometimes apps try to be cool/edgy with fancy transitions and those things look cool the first few times I see it but get annoying after that because I'm having to wait for it every time. Anyways I am rambling but you get the gist, don't overuse juice and the level of juice depends on your audience and the nature of your product.
I've just scrubbed back through - the podcast was https://syntax.fm/show/571/supper-club-rust-in-action-with-t..., which follows the pleasing practise of providing chapters (yay). It was Tim McNamara speaking from about 12'40": what he actually said was that about half of Rust learners who do drop out fall away because of the purported difficulty of the language. Very different from my faux summary so apologies for the grievous misrepresentation.
I still find Rust as hard to use as others I've spoken to do though. I'm kind of keeping at it for reasons specific to projects I have in mind, as well as a certain dense stubbornness.
Here's a podcast interview[3] about how he did it.

You can try the app, it's way faster than Mail from Apple. Apple even featured the app multiple times on the mobile App store; again all HTML/JS.
Making fast software in HTML/JS is definitely possible.
An email client is mostly HTML/Style rendering so our use case might be more aligned.
You can learn more about how we made it fast by listening to :
