The greatest Forth book is Forth on the Atari - Learning By Using by Winfried Hofacker. It’s an old book, published in 1983 in Germany, but the concepts it embodies are timeless. Available as a PDF http://www.atarimania.com/documents/FORTH-on-the-Atari-Learn... but I have an original copy :-)

All those and no mention of the classic "Forth on the Atari: Learning by Using Forth"? http://www.globalnerdy.com/2007/09/14/reimagining-programmin...

ValForth from Valpar was one of the first cross platform FORTH implementations in the Atari ST ecosystem, and it had some clever extensions for games.

But like the post mentions, even the 8-bits had FORTH from Elcomp, and books like https://www.atarimania.com/documents/FORTH-on-the-Atari-Lear.... Leo Brodie's "Starting FORTH" is still a great intro.

While we all learned BASIC, these alt languages helped us learn that there actually are radically different metaphors to program the device

Mind expanding to a kid in the 80s!

Forth on Atari w/o mentioning https://atari8bit.net/db/?d=cd&g=Books&f=FORTH-on-the-Atari-... Yep, those were the times.

FORTH is all fun and such (well, the stack counting gets old after a while), but I have difficulties seeing it in larger, multi-person projects (were there any?). A good idea who's time came and went.

Anytime I hear about Forth I will forever be reminded of this:
