Fatherland
Fatherland is set in a world that almost existed but never was: the Berlin that Hitler's architect, Albert Speer, planned to build- the hub of a victorious Third Reich extending from the Rhine to the Urals. - I really like Robert Harris in general, Fatherland being my favorite (shame about the terrible movie adaptation!), and the Cicero Trilogy being fantastic. But for some reason Pompeii didn't do it for me :( It's OK, it's by no means bad, but it left me unsatisfied.
- It diverges much from the book but it's enjoyable and terrifying at some points. I just really don't like ending - it felt rushed and way too open like they'd still had hopes for another series.
Personally I'd kept Dick's basis of this series and incorporate Robert Harris "Fatherland" novel that would set action for a longer while in Europe. It easily could provide action for at least 2 more seasons.
- I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book a couple of years ago, published in 2016, and I presume you could get the same information from there.
It's not really a secret how a pope is chosen, it's just not something most people are interested enough to look up (there's a missing "in" in that sentence but I couldn't decide where to put it).
Robert Harris wrote the book and also wrote Fatherland, Enigma and Pompeii. Those are three different books but I'd definitely read a book with that single title.
