What Hacker News says
- You might enjoy reading Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melniboné series. It's in part about a society that spends most of its time high as a kite, and its inevitable downfall.
- For Fantasy I loved the Thieves' World shared universe. The first 4 books were my favourites.

While some of his work hasn't aged well, I am still quite fond of several of Michael Moorcock's Elric novels and the first Corum trilogy.
