    What Hacker News says

"Why we get sick" by Benjamin Bikman. It talks about the causes and effects of insulin resistance, including how to diagnose it.

"The obesity code" by Jason Fung. It talks about the causes of obesity (spoiler: hyperinsulinemia) and provides practical advice on how how reducing carbohydrates and intermittent fasting can help.

"The case for keto" by Gary Taubes. Is an enjoyable read that not only covers the extensive evidence of how excess insulin leads to gaining body fat, but also how we ended up culturally terrified of dietary fat and dietary cholesterol.

If you have already managed to become lean through a low-carbohydrate diet and/or intermittent fasting, then I do recommend following the peer-reviewed research published by Nicholas Norwitz (he also has a YouTube channel for laypeople).

Ultimately, what leads me to this eating pattern is my own difficulty managing my body weight when I don't. If I could stay lean, healthy and satiated with a mixed diet that included some rice, bread, potatoes and pasta, I would go for it.

Many people do just fine with some carbohydrates in their diet. I used to as well, when I was younger. These days, I can either take significant steps to reduce my insulin levels or I slowly creep towards obesity and metabolic syndrome.

If you want some interesting reads on the subject, read the books Why We Get Sick by Benjamin Bikman and Always Hungry by David Ludwig. Both are scientists in this field of research. Both provide some sounds advice based on that research for eating more healthy.

Benjamin Bikman „Why We Get Sick“ is what I can recommend. His book is spot on regarding insulin resistance, discussing consequences and effective prevention strategies.

An interesting question is, if there is a book/article that references studies, does that mean it’s correct? E.g I’m reading Benjamin Bikman’s Why we Get Sick (how insulin resistance is at the root of many problems, and how a low carb high fat diet can prevent it). Lots of scientific articles referenced. Makes it more believable but obviously we can’t judge the correctness of those articles themselves.

After reading Benjamin Bikman’s book (Why we Get Sick) I think the other benefit of IF/TRF besides caloric restriction is that you’re also reducing your “insulin abuse”, I.e you are avoiding having elevated insulin levels for a longer period, which helps with improving insulin sensitivity. This book (highly, highly recommend) makes the case that insulin resistance is at the root of many metabolic and other disorders. I think there’s too much focus on weight loss in these threads, but even those with normal weight and BMI can have issues due to insulin resistance.
