Not the previous commenter, but I would recommend Hiding In Plain Sight, by Sarah Kendzior. It centers on Donald Trump, but covers in great detail what is publicly known about the seedy history of the people in his orbit, including Epstein, and it calls into question how the people in power in the political, business, and media worlds have left so many questions go unanswered.

Yes. Why not give the Mueller report a read? Annotated versions are widely available, e.g. [1]. Alternatively, or perhaps additionally, give Sarah Kendzior's Hiding In Plain Sight [1] a read. It is a quick but exceedingly well-researched and well-documented read which neatly summarises the travesty that the Trump administration has been.

Fully agree with this post. This administration does not have the public good at heart. Democracy must be sustained at any cost, and one particular political party (with power stolen through gerrymandering and stonewalling) led by one particular authoritarian (who is strongly supported by criminal foreign oligarchs and Americans who hate race mixing) is doing all it can to erode fundamental democratic institutions. That anyone supports these brazen power grabs is extremely disconcerting to me.

Sarah Kendzior (and most likely other journalists from that time) mentions this in her book Hiding in Plain Sight: 9/11 changed the news, it shifted from print to the web because the web could update faster. Newspapers websites were no longer outdated copies of the print.

Of course that brought about a whole lot of other consequences.

      > No, this is different. Trump at that time was a "why the fuck not" to people who hated the current climate and wanted "change". He was an "unknown" as far as the governance he would provide.

But that climate, the white collar criminality, the nation wide rampant electoral schemes, the inequality haven't changed. What gave birth to Trump winning the 2016 election is still there. If I understand correctly, there's no reason republicans would support a democrat president trying to salvage thing considering they didn't prevent the swift acceleration in deterioration during the last four years.

Maybe Trump was an unknown as far as the governance he would provide but it was known what kind of individual he was (and to an extent what would happen if elected, in broad lines).

I don't know, I am in the final chapter of Sarah Kendzior "Hiding in Plain Sight: The Invention of Donald Trump and the Erosion of America" and things do look grim indeed.
