I would recommend these following books:

      1. Cocoa Programming for OS X: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide - https://www.amazon.com/Cocoa-Programming-OS-Ranch-Guides/dp/...

      2. Swift Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide - https://www.amazon.com/Swift-Programming-Ranch-Guide-Guides/...

As a beginning iOS developer, I found the Big Nerd Ranch iOS book very helpful. It leaned more towards a tutorial style. I see that they also have a book called "Cocoa Programming for OS X". If I were getting into programming for OS X, that's the first resource I would check out.

I've heard this is a really good introduction book, http://www.amazon.com/Objective-C-Programming-Ranch-Guide-Gu...

Having read their Cocoa programming for OS X book (http://www.amazon.com/Cocoa-Programming-Mac-3rd-Edition/dp/0...), I can wholeheartedly recommend their books.

I would suggest Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X, even though it's based on Objective-C and the book is old. That means it's based upon older versions of Xcode and Mac OS (like ~10 years old). Conceptually it's a good book, but because of it's age the code examples, etc are outdated. The publisher does have forums which can be helpful:

      https://forums.bignerdranch.com/c/cocoa-programming-for-os-x...

They also have a Swift book, but I haven't personally read it. They also have an Advanced Mac OS X book, but it's also old and isn't on their website anymore.

Thanks. Just for those curious, his latest book is from 2011:

Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X (4th Edition) http://smile.amazon.com/Cocoa-Programming-Mac-OS-4th/dp/0321...

And apparently there is an update coming in October:

More Cocoa Programming for OS X: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (Big Nerd Ranch Guides) http://smile.amazon.com/More-Cocoa-Programming-OS-Guides/dp/...

The More Cocoa Programming for OS X: book has been in O'Reilly Rough Cuts beta for several years and the tech is pretty old at this point. Not sure if it ever will see the light of day. The Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X is updated regularly and the training program is ongoing so I imagine it will continue to be updated.
