    The Science of Interstellar

    Kip S. Thorne · 2014

"Interstellar, from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, takes us on a fantastic voyage far beyond our solar system. Yet in The Science of Interstellar, Kip Thorne, the physicist who assisted Nolan on the scientific aspects of Interstellar, shows us that the movie's jaw-dropping events and stunning, never-before-attempted visuals are grounded in real science. Thorne shares his experiences working as the science adviser on the film and then moves on to the science itself. In chapters on wormholes, black holes, interstellar travel, and much more, Thorne's scientific insights many of them triggered during the actual scripting and shooting of Interstellar, describe the physical laws that govern our universe and the truly astounding phenomena that those laws make possible"

Very cool, and very mind bending. Very faithful to the Event Horizon Telescope rendering. A decade ago I got really into black holes for like a few months, and I read Kip Thorne's book called "The Science of Interstellar", talking all about black hole simulations. Have you read it? I wonder how the simulation tech has evolved, as 10 years is a lot. I do wonder if you do like, size estimates of a black hole in my room. Suppose I have a black hole in my room, I'd be curious to know what the mass of that is, like a fun fact, tidbit somewhere.

I have not read it myself but the answer can probably be found in the book "The Science of Interstellar" [1]

Kip Thorne, a Nobel prize-winning physicist, worked as the science advisor for Interstellar so the hollywood bs is pretty good!

Interstellar is one of my favorite movies in recent memory. If anybody else is interested in reading more, the book "The Science of Interstellar" is fascinating and very easily digestible even if you're not big on physics.

Kip Thorne (with others) wrote the standard text book I used at university on Gravity: "Gravitation"

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitation_(book)

It is a mighty tome, with lots of advanced maths (like tensor calculus), and I can't say I got through very much of it as a Physics undergraduate!

I was pleased to see him pop up again as a science adviser for the movie Interstellar and have enjoyed reading his much more accessible book - "The Science of Interstellar"
