    Red Moon

Kim Stanley Robinson, Maxwell Hamilton, Joy Osmanski, Feodor Chin · 2018

"It is twenty-five years since China established the first colony on the moon, and the lives of three people are about to collide. American Fred Fredericks is making his first trip there, his purpose to install a communications system for China's Lunar Science Foundation. But hours after his arrival he witnesses a murder and is forced into hiding. It is also the first visit to the moon for celebrity travel reporter Ta Shu. He has contacts and influence, but he too will find that the moon can be a perilous place for any traveler. Finally, there is Chan Qi. Daughter of the Minister of Finance, and without doubt a person of interest to those in power. She is on the moon for reasons of her own, but when she attempts to return home to China, in secret, the events that unfold will change everything - on the moon, and on Earth"

It could be read that way, though don't you think the intention behind it was "I am beneath their notice" not "I am disposable"?

I thought Kim Stanley Robinson's vision of the PRC's surveillance state in Red Moon[1] was interesting, in his future version political infighting reduces its effectiveness enough that people can still slip through some cracks.

Kim Stanly Robinson also hits on this in Red Moon. Someone is emotionally invested in having a particular plot of moon where the earth peeks out through a gap in a crater wall during the wobble.

Kim Stanley Robinson's latest book is Red Moon, and it's set maybe a decade or two after moon colonization has happened. It's not his best work (it's worth reading but I'm not sure if it's worth owning) but he is known for this genre of fiction and it has some pretty interesting observations in it.
