    Thinking, fast and slow

    Daniel Kahneman · 2011

Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman, world-famous psychologist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, takes us on a groundbreaking tour of the mind and explains the two systems that drive the way we think. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. The impact of overconfidence on corporate strategies, the difficulties of predicting what will make us happy in the future, the profound effect of cognitive biases on everything from playing the stock market to planning our next vacation―each of these can be understood only by knowing how the two systems shape our judgments and decisions. Engaging the reader in a lively conversation about how we think, Kahneman reveals where we can and cannot trust our intuitions and how we can tap into the benefits of slow thinking. He offers practical and enlightening insights into how choices are made in both our business and our personal lives―and how we can use different techniques to guard against the mental glitches that often get us into trouble. Topping bestseller lists for almost ten years, Thinking, Fast and Slow is a contemporary classic, an essential book that has changed the lives of millions of readers.

I really enjoyed "Thinking Fast and Slow", unfortunately it may not be Daniel Kahneman best work, and unfortunately a victim of the reproducibility crisis

None of Kahneman's work was affected but some of the work he uses as examples absolute were. It's not all bad but there are parts that should probably be removed or prefaced to new readers especially since Kahneman accepted (RIP) the some of the criticism, that or some spiritual success without those warts

Read Thinking, Fast and Slow. Both system 1 and system 2 thinking has been achieved with modern AI.

Your argument that it is not thinking because it is not biological / like a human is like trying to argue a plane doesn't fly because it uses jet fuel unlike a bird.

For me, a real gem though I don't usually recommend it since it's only in Italian is Decalogo della complessità by Alberto Felice De Toni.

And the other one was Thinking, Fast and Slow by psychologist Daniel Kahneman.

The subconscious and unconscious are different, and the subconscious has it's own working memory that the conscious can't access.

An interesting read is Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast and Slow that explains cognitive systems, 1 is subconscious and fast and the other is conscious and slow

I'm a SWE, a book lover too. Ppl keep asking me what are my favorites. I think these are 5 books any engineer or techie should read at least once if they want to think more clearly, understand people better, and make better decisions

      1. Thinking, Fast and Slow Learn why your brain constantly tricks you and how to avoid costly thinking errors.

      2. Sapiens A fascinating look at how humans built civilizations, beliefs, and the modern world.

      3. The Art of War Timeless lessons on strategy, leadership, and winning without unnecessary conflict.

      4. The Power of Habit A practical framework for understanding and changing the behaviors that shape our lives.

      5. Outsmarted: The Hidden Costs of Being the Smartest Person in the Room A different kind of intelligence book that I recently read. It explores the emotional and social challenges of highly intelligent and high-achieving people. Specially a must-read for elites and techies.
