in hardcover, on the list for 24 weeks!President Jack Ryan faces a world crisis unlike any he has ever known, in Tom Clancy's extraordinary new novel....A high-level assassination attempt in Russia has the newly elected Ryan sending his most trusted eyes and ears—including antiterrorism specialist John Clark—to Moscow, for he fears the worst is yet to come. And he's right. The attempt has left the already unstable Russia vulnerable to ambitious forces in China eager to fulfill their destiny—and change the face of the world as we know it...
It's also sad to see a talented writer die at such a young age. Goodbye Tom, thanks for the great books.
[1] I am specifically referring to "The Bear and the Dragon" in this example.
It was actually the first "adult" book I read. Maybe when I was 9? I told my father I was bored of school books, and he handed it to me.
As well as Clancy's other stuff!
Just stop reading at 2000 (last recommended book: The Bear and the Dragon). After that he started phoning it in / lending out the name as ghostwritten brand.
This book brought to my attention the mathematics and for lack of a better term difficulty of having a missile intercept system. Not only the mathematics but the but the raw limitations of physics that must be dealt with. In the case of the book it was ICBM's which travel much faster, 7 km/s (15,700 mph)[1], compared to the 3749.11 mph of the skud missile.
For anyone interested the book is Tom Clancy - The Bear and the Dragon.
My favourite remains Without Remorse. I miss a film adaption; Jim Caviezel would be perfect as Kelly.
