    Information is Beautiful

    David McCandless · 2010

"A visual guide to the way the world really works. Every day, every hour, every minute we are bombarded by information - from television, from newspapers, from the internet, we're steeped in it, maybe even lost in it. We need a new way to relate to it, to discover the beauty and the fun of information for information's sake. No dry facts, theories or statistics. Instead, Information is Beautiful contains visually stunning displays of information that blend the facts with their connections, their context and their relationships - making information meaningful, entertaining and beautiful. This is information like you have never seen it before - keeping text to a minimum and using unique visuals that offer a blueprint of modern life - a map of beautiful colour illustrations that are tactile to hold and easy to flick through but intriguing and engaging enough to study for hours." - publisher Here's the TED talk delivered by McCandless in July 2010

      The Book: https://www.amazon.ie/Information-Beautiful-New-David-McCand...

“A visual guide to how the world really works, through stunning infographics and data visualisations, thoroughly revised, recalculated and reimagined for this new edition.

We are overwhelmed by information – from our phones, our televisions, our computers, our newspapers.

This new edition of Information is Beautiful has been revised throughout with over 20 updates and 20 new visualisations. It offers shelter from the flood by visualising data in a new way that blends facts with their connections, their context and their relationships – making information meaningful, entertaining and beautiful.

This is information like you have never seen it before – easy to flick through but also engaging enough to study – information that comes to life in your hands and your eyes.”

I remember it well (used to see it for sale in the gift shop at design galleries and the like), I coveted it but never bought it :(

Perhaps I should treat myself now that I'm not so impoverished :)

According to Information Is Beautiful (McCandless, 2009), $465B is enough to feed and educate every child in the developing world for five years.

This reminds me of the cover of the book Information is Beautiful. It has a wheel that plots cultures vs. associations and fills in the spaces with the colors that go with them. http://ceslava.com/blog/color-culturas-infografa/

I also found this spreadsheet with the same information in more legible but less eye-catching format: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Aqe2P9sYhZ2ncFliSmV...
