    Necronomicon

    H.P. Lovecraft · 2008

I chose to celebrate Halloween by binging on an HP Lovecraft audiobook, the Necronomicon. Of the short stories contained within, the second one, Reanimator, is my recommendation for anyone in search of spooky entertainment on this topic. I have to warn however that it's set in the 1920s, back when the N word and eugenics were both considered hip.

Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales of H. P. Lovecraft

Science fiction and thrilling horror. Unique style. I recommend At The Mountains Of Madness. This man knows how to keep up suspense.

I think the stories inspired by KiY, like James Blish's "More Light" are better than the ones in Chambers' book. Chambers' genius was in the creation of a work (the eponymous King In Yellow play) that induced insanity. This influenced a lot of later authors such as HPL with his fictitious Necronomicon.

This comment is itself a fine example of the form, a twist on the King in Yellow, or Necronomicon, a story about a text which contains knowledge so alien or antithetical to humanity that just reading it is enough to fracture the mind of the reader and leave them unfit for society with their fellow man
