"Did China Steal Coronavirus From Canada And Weaponize It?"

      https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/did-china-steal-coronavirus-canada-and-weaponize-it

      From the article:

"In March 2019 ... a shipment of exceptionally virulent viruses from Canada’s NML ended up in China. The event caused a major scandal with Bio-warfare experts questioning why Canada was sending lethal viruses to China. Scientists from NML said the highly lethal viruses were a potential bio-weapon.

Following investigation, the incident was traced to Chinese agents working at NML. Four months later in July 2019, a group of Chinese virologists were forcibly dispatched from the Canadian National Microbiology Laboratory (NML). The NML is Canada’s only level-4 facility and one of only a few in North America equipped to handle the world’s deadliest diseases, including Ebola, SARS, Coronavirus, etc."

I coincidentally just came to HN looking for this exact answer following the headlines about BTC soaring. [1]

The use cases for it I see are:

      1. Cheaply send large payments without having to pay a bank fee (instead you pay btc fees plus conversion to and from fiat fees).

      2. Anonymously transfer money if using a washing service (illegal to offer one in the US) or if you spend rawly mined coins.

IMO, crypto is a US gov invention that was pushed to speculative theater to give threat actors huge incentive to break sha256/512 publically, as the best use of such tech atm is to steal massive amounts of money. It therefore acts as a canary for when someone finally does figure out how to crack it or easily solve prime factorization.

      > By his own account, Lokey was writing as many as fifteen posts a day, among them most of the political pieces. The gig had a certain formula, he told Bloomberg: “Russia=good. Obama=idiot. Bashar al-Assad=benevolent leader. John Kerry= dunce. Vladimir Putin=greatest leader in the history of statecraft.” For Zero Hedge, Syria was a special obsession, a sign of the essential strength of authoritarian regimes and the weakness of democracies.

ZH says he's a disgruntled employee, but there's at least some evidence it's more than "they hate everyone".

I'm not OP but a quick yandex search (google isn't great for conservative news) suggests ~12k people were arrested last year for speech. https://nypost.com/2025/08/19/world-news/uk-free-speech-struggle-30-arrests-a-day-censorship/

      This article says 10k https://www.zerohedge.com/political/britains-speech-gulag-exposed-10000-arrested-last-year-social-media-posts

More broadly it's been a huge issue for a while, tons of articles come out of the UK for people being arrested for criticizing politicians/policies. Even more dystopian is it's hard to report on, because the police might come after you for talking about it. Germany is having similar issues, it's easy to forget most of the world (including Europe) doesn't have free speech

After some brief experimentation, sorting by 'best' might be a better strategy to find controversial comments.

I also only checked one article (https://www.zerohedge.com/political/vote-mail), and the 'worst' comment:

      > Vote by mail is the best option.

      The 'best' comment:

      > This November ends in civil war no matter who wins or loses. The other side wont accept the results because of vote by mail. I don't know about you, but I am glad I'm on the side with all the guns, ammo, land, tools, water, food production and tradesmen. They've got big cities and computers. Ha. Enjoy kiddos.

Given that I live in a state with an incredibly successful history of vote by mail, I tend to love that worst comment and hate that 'best' comment.

To an extent, this sounds terrifying. The first thing that jumped to my mind is that GPS be jammed or spoofed. In fact, the U.S. military in its shift away from COIN to great power competition in possibly highly contested environments is training to have less reliance on GPS: https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-26/usaf-begins-massive-gps-blackouts-western-us-during-largest-ever-air-war-drill

Radar can be jammed too, but I would guess the EM signature powerful enough to track. I don't know if GPS jammers would have that issue.

On a positive note, I think this would pave the way towards integrating commercial drone infrastructure into our airways a lot better!
