An independent news site covering the Fediverse, ActivityPub and decentralized social software such as Mastodon, Pixelfed and BookWyrm.
HN links it for news on ActivityPub features and for stories like Maven importing Fediverse posts and Meta's possible federation.
People on the Fediverse expected it very much. Meta already was trying to talk to the larger instances "off the record"[1]. Fediverse users are already planning to boycott any instance which federates with Meta to block any Embrace, Extend and Extinguish moves.

There's a bridge nowadays, but… see https://pleromanonx86.wordpress.com/2024/02/17/mastodon-dated-and-broken-by-design/ which also links to https://wedistribute.org/2024/02/tear-down-walls-not-bridges/ https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/14/bluesky-and-mastodon-users-are-having-a-fight-that-could-shape-the-next-generation-of-social-media/ and https://news.itsfoss.com/bluesky-mastodon-bridge/
Apparently they're importing drafts and direct messages too, somehow?

I'm not sure how that's possible, but it seems kinda worrying that ActivityPub lets you trivially make that mistake when mirroring data.
A screenshot isn't as useful as you'd think. You can very easily point a third-party web frontend to it, like the ones at https://wedistribute.org/2019/04/your-guide-to-alternative-frontends-for-mastodon-and-pleroma/
Lemmy plans to support ActivityPub:

I didn't try it myself though.
