HN commenters mostly cite his Nord Stream piece as an alternative account; some call it more thorough than mainstream coverage, noting the NYT dismissed it for relying on unnamed sources.

It's probable the US and possibly Norway did it under cover of BALTOPS 22.

      https://seymourhersh.substack.com/p/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream

Snopes only offers FUD but not a single contradiction or refutation of any of Sy Hersh's reporting or claims other than it boils down to "it relies on a single source". Sometimes, in secret operations, that's the reality. There exist genuine anonymous sources who cannot be revealed themselves. Part of the principle of benefit-of-the-doubt is trusting that Sy Hersh isn't merely looking for a quick payday to sellout his journalistic integrity for a few dollars and that he isn't an easily-fooled novice when it comes to doing due-diligence on sources and facts. It's mostly a disrespectful hit-piece lacking in evidence. With all likelihood, like the identity of Deep Throat, the truth will come out once the source retires and write a book about it.

      >Oh, and Nord stream 2 was not the US. At least there's no credible proof or semblance of one.

You have to be really lying to yourself to believe that. Look at the twinkle in bidens eye when he says it: https://youtu.be/OS4O8rGRLf8?t=82

      This coupled with: https://seymourhersh.substack.com/p/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream

It's unmistakable. The US did it and everybody in Germany and Europe knows it. The US was meanwhile over-concerned with their first major F-35 kill ever: Balloon gate.

      > European countries did much better than china regarding covid. US did protlly because of many internal issues which seem to be unadressable.

The US did poorly because of lack of centralized control and abundance of karens and the male counterpart. China had the superior response in terms of infrastructure adaption.

Seymour Hersh published a detailed piece outlining his case that it was carried out by the US military with assistance from Norway (who have expertise in that part of the seabed), using the cover of a NATO naval exercise as partial cover:

      https://seymourhersh.substack.com/p/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream

I find it more credible that these were the actors involved. Biden wanted to end a future link between Germany and Russia. In Germany there is significant segment of the population that is distrustful of the US (even before the recent Trump shenanigans) and the potential stronger infrastructure ties to Russia. I find it more credible than a ragtag group of Ukrainians did it personally.

Although the truth may never be known.

      Edit: for clarity

      > Pro-Ukrainian Group

Is that a tongue-in-cheek way of saying the US?

Joking aside, it’s funny The NY Times brushed off this much more thorough and credible account from Seymour Hersch [1] because it “relied heavily on unnamed sources” (despite being corroborated in other ways) only to publish this article which deflects from the US, based entirely on - wait for it — unnamed sources in the US intelligence community.

For what it’s worth, Hersch’s account makes a lot more sense, and the data around the deep-sea explosives experts in the Florida training center plus the flight records of the US plane that flew over the explosions support the claims of the anonymous source.

      >Complete lunacy.

Exactly. I was being sarcastic. Yet this is what passes as intelligence these days. After Sy Hersh's exposé on what happened to those pipelines [1], they had to come up with an alternative theory and that's the best they could do. This wouldn't pass the second reading of a B-movie plot.

My point was that undersea cables and undersea pipes are now a "fair game" and in the future we will see these kinds of infrastructures suffer all kinds of incidents. It's lunacy to go forward in today's geopolitical climate with massive projects that have an attack surface that's thousand miles long.

Seymour Hersh came out and put together a fairly convincing argument.

The guy who was right about checks notes:

      The My Lai Massacre

      Watergate

      Torture at Abu Ghraib

      Domestic Spying

      The secret bombing of Cambodia.

But then people come out and go "nonono don't look at that, it was definitely these two guys on a yatch".
