NextDraft is Dave Pell's daily newsletter of top news stories, with short commentary and links to longer reads.
Commenters recommend it as a daily newsletter they enjoy, praising its brief summaries, humor, and links to good journalism.
I have a few I love!
NextDraft https://nextdraft.com is written by Dave Pell. Dave is from the 90’s-era “digerati,” folks like Kevin Kelly and Louis Rossetto. He signs each newsletter “Editor, Internet.” He surfaces the news of the day and provides hilarious and sometimes poignant commentary on it. He has a decidedly “San Francisco left-wing” viewpoint. If that’s your jam, his newsletter is an absolute treat. I truly love that man.
I also love Pirate Wares https://piratewares.com, Mike Solana’s newsletter. Mike has neither really a left or right viewpoint. He’s more of the type to sit above left or right and point out there are multiple other dimensions and forces at work. Covers tech, news, finance, science.
I also really like Bloomberg’s Open and Close newsletters, and I LOVE Matt Levine’s Bloomberg Money Stuff newsletter, though it isn’t so much focused on general news as it is on finance. But again, what an absolute treat it is to read him. Love him.
I second https://www.brainpickings.org/ and also would like to add http://nextdraft.com/ (though it is more "general news") - other than that I can't help, because I actually prefer to use rss-feeds over Newsletters.
Some RSS-Feeds I follow and which might be of interest: http://kernelmag.dailydot.com/ - http://www.rand.org/blog.html - https://blog.codinghorror.com/ - https://bsdmag.org/
(PS: You can also get rss-updates about new entries in Youtube-Playlists (google it) and if you use Twitter and follow some interesting people, that might also be a good way to stay up to date)
Here's an eclectic list to get started:

I ended up skimming a lot of this, because the author got a bit long winded. I got down to the five choices and had to wonder to myself which of them Dave Pell made, because he still publishes NextDraft today:
http://nextdraft.com
It has not, however, been in continuous publication. At any rate, Mr. Pell seems to have kept the lights on producing online content.
I also cut out mainstream news consumption.
For the most part, I simply haven't missed it. Events worthy of my attention (i.e. that will change my behavior) tend to bubble up through more specialized news sources (like Ars Technica or my Twitter feed) anyway.
That said, I have found NextDraft (http://nextdraft.com/) very useful.
Dunno about that. I subscribe to several newsletters. Dave Pell puts out NextDraft almost every weekday. https://nextdraft.com/. Also available on a website and via an iOS app.
There are several others I subscribe to, not all of which release daily (though I wish some of them did). So "no one" is the wrong term to use here.
