It's not a definition of a criminal offence, and nowhere did I imply that. It's an observation that numerous people witnessed an event or were made aware of it, yet not one of them contacted the police. The employers response (http://www.neo.com/2013/10/14/a-note-to-the-community-about-a-recently-publicized-event), made no reference to a crime.

The closest law to not reporting a crime is Misprison of Felony (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/4), although that would require management/HR knew a crime had been committed, and then concealed it. It would be suicide for EdgeCase/Neo to know a sexual assault had occurred and not report the alleged assaulter. It would be socially limiting for the immediate sober witnesses too (the bar staff, any CCTV of the area in question), and those whose judgement was impaired by alcohol.

No-one commenting was there, so this is all conjecture. If a crime was committed and no-one reported it, now is the time to do so. The full force of the law needs to be applied. I do not buy that someone willing to talk about this publicly online would not want to go through reporting this because of shame. If a crime has been committed, and they have the evidence, why not press charges?

Neo is hiring in all of its offices: San Fran, NYC, Singapore, Columbus, Cincinnati, Montevideo, Edinburgh - jobs@neo.com

We are always on the lookout for great software developers, designers and product managers.

Neo is a new kind of consultancy – one that blends the best of Lean and Agile Development practices. We work in small, cross-functional teams. We not only help clients build software the right way, we help make sure they’re building the right thing in the first place. At Neo, you’ll know that you’re helping to build things that really matter – tools and products that have been exposed to market validation at every stage.

We believe in constant learning and pushing the boundaries of our craft. We work reasonable, flexible hours. We use the best tools available, work in an open environment, send our people to conferences, and have a lot of fun.

In terms of technology, we work on a wide variety of languages and frameworks including Ruby on Rails, Objective C, Python, Node.js, Java, Angular, Ember and Backbone.

Neo - http://www.neo.com/jobs - San Francisco, CA. Columbus, OH. New York City, NY. Montevideo, Uruguay. Edinburgh, Scotland.

Looking for software developers in all of the above offices. Product Designers in SF. And a Design Principal in Columbus.

We're always looking for passionate developers. The bulk of our software development is Ruby/Rails and iOS. If this is your bread and butter, great! But even if it isn't, we'd really love to still hear from people who have experience working with other frameworks and have an interest in learning Rails/iOS dev.

The company is full of great people, who are incredibly passionate about our craft. In Scotland, we're super active in the community: helping run the regional Javascript and Ruby conferences, organising and sponsoring local user groups, and encouraging events such as RailsGirls. Our other offices are very active in their local communities too.

We'd love for you to take a look at the job descriptions on our site, and drop us a note if you'd like to find out a bit more!

      Thanks.

      Neo - Rails/iOS Software Engineer

New York (also similar positions in San Francisco, Ohio, Durham, Montevideo, Singapore)

We care more about passion and curiosity, less about knowledge of one particular framework. So you don’t need to know Rails or iOS but you do need to have experience in familiar frameworks, and you need to be willing to learn either or both. Languages and frameworks can be learned, passion cannot.

Our development process is based on XP with an emphasis on individualism and pragmatism. We pair a lot, but not all the time. We test a lot, but not all the time. The key is being able to explain your practices with rational argument. Ultimately, we care more about building the best products we can, less so about being dogmatic about our process.

Not a counter to your comment, just a field report on Cincinnati, since you mentioned Ohio:

Supply of ruby developers is lagging demand, with two well-known and growing agile-development companies with a ruby bent (http://neo.com/ * & http://gaslight.co) & a host of funded ruby-based startups coming out of The Brandery http://www.brandery.org/ that are hiring at market rates.

It's an underrated city with great arts & entertainment, and an active community of developers.
