The Mozilla Firefox team's blog for Project Tofino, a short experiment on new browser interfaces and the Datomish knowledge store.
HN commenters cite it for the finding that normal users struggle with unconventional browser interfaces, and for the Datomish and Mentat storage work.
Though it doesn't sound like the team leader even has a clear idea of what they're trying to do [0], Tofino seems interesting.
One part of this "reinvent the browser" they're looking at is tab grouping, potentially with heuristics. However, it does give me pause, as usually when Firefox comes up, HN talks about how they always have 20+ tabs open at once. (Anecdotally, many of my friends and family are the same).

For those who may have missed it, Mozilla is working on Datalog knowledge store backed by SQLite called Project Mentat [1] (also written in Rust).
Announcement and rationale written by one of its devs can be found here [2].
Also previous HN discussion is located here [3].

You might be interested in reading this much longer piece, which includes a brief code example, and spends more time than the README explaining the motivation for the project.

Mozilla had a recent project (Tofino) to experiment with browser interfaces, and one of their conclusions was
"Boy howdy do normal users have hard time with non-conventional browser interfaces!" https://medium.com/project-tofino/re-defining-the-tofino-project-6d3c98521cc8
It ran its course. It was only supposed to be a three month project. See the original announcement: https://medium.com/project-tofino/browsers-innovators-dilemma-and-project-tofino-ef634c6164f0#.zi9xvtsl7
It's probably just because it's new. Here's their blog:
