Unfortunately, the story focuses only on the girl. I would have liked to read about the actual experiences of doing business in China. He just glosses over the fact that their programmer was fired. Also, is his co-founder Chinese? I think that would have been relevant to mention.
So... a) did you move to China; b) are you really doing 5 months work from home, one month work in a 5 star hotel; c) get in a knife fight?
I don't mind privacy at all, but I like to know if what I'm reading is fact or fiction or some combination thereof.

This is the case in pretty much every western country, afaik. The $250k limit is also held by Germany. Other countries have floors of (I hope you're sitting) 1 million currency units (pounds, etc.). Personally, I think they are all misguided. But try to explain that to border control. In this vein, you may find this post by Max Klein of interest: http://maxkle.in/giving-up-on-europe/

"Max", if you're reading this, weren't you going to give away your methods in August or something?
Wave today is nothing like it was supposed to be from their presentations last year.
But it is an extremely important productivity tool, and makes collaboration really easy. http://maxkle.in/on-how-google-wave-surprisingly-changed-my-li/
I haven't done it myself, but for your price range you'll likely end up on rentacoder. An article posted here a while back had some good tips on managing a project there:
