Commenters call his connector pages one of the best resources available, citing the JST and DuPont guides, which also warn against crimping DuPont connectors as a hobbyist.

I wouldn't recommend crimping your own hookup wires as a hobbiest, especially not dupont. The unofficial tools for dupont mostly all suck, and the official tools are $400+[1].

For my own crimping of dupont, I'm using the Iwiss SN-025 which works OK, but even then I've mostly switched to Mini-PV because I was tired of the dupont receptacles wearing out after 5 cycles.

The pictured SN-28B is definitely not good for dupont, which has a totally round cable holding ring. Amazon/Aliexpress sellers don't know anything about what they are selling.

I will often spend hours researching different kinds of electrical connectors instead of....any other thing that I'm actually supposed to be doing. If I am feeling extra depressed I'll go order myself some Anderson PowerPole housings or maybe a kit of aviation connectors. Or read http://www.mattmillman.com/info/crimpconnectors/dupont-and-dupont-connectors/ yet again.

Not an EE but I know exactly what I'm going to use these for: Playing with old CPUs so that I can implement all the bus and decode logic and some peripherals in it. Something like this[1] but even simpler. They'll probably be used for similar but more realistic stuff, i.e. as reconfigurable glue.

Much great info about JST connectors, heck the whole website is great:

These tiny connectors absolutely must be used with a proper crimper.
