The Glimpse project site announces a fork of the GIMP image editor, created partly over the name and usability.
HN commenters bring it up as a GIMP fork with a different name, with some praising the rebrand and others noting the project is on hiatus.
There was some people that tried to change the name but it turned out to be a ridiculous amount of work, and the project unfortunately didn't last. (Edit: Source https://glimpse-editor.org/posts/a-project-on-hiatus/)
They also made some mockups of what a redesign might look like, but as you might imagine it would also be quite a lot of work to implement it: https://github.com/glimpse-editor/glimpse-nx-design
I’ve found that technical types often don’t care about issues like this... but the name GIMP is imo an abelist slur and I really wish they would change it. Sadly the devs don’t seem to care, but there is a fork called Glimpse that aims to remedy this. If any of y’all care about removing discriminatory language from open source projects, please promote Glimpse!

The beauty of the GPL is that you can change it to your heart's desire.
There is a fork called Glimpse.

When Adobe hikes the prices to their SaaSS, you will still be welcome.

They really need to get around to either adopting the Glimpse[1] name, or dropping their current one for something else.
The project's name makes it hard to recommend it in a professional context even when it would get the job done well.

There was recently a post on HN about a GIMP fork called glimpse which aims to improve UI/UX: https://github.com/glimpse-editor/Glimpse or project page at https://glimpse-editor.org/
I recently came across Glimpse [0] which is a fork of Gimp. They state usability as one of the reasons for the fork.
