Microsoft's Azure SQL team blog covers product news, vector search in SQL Server and Azure, and tutorials for developers.
HN links it for Azure SQL vector search articles, and commenters criticized a LangChain example that guided readers to pirate Harry Potter books, costing Microsoft trust.

Ever tried setting up an Al-powered project on
Azure and felt overwhelmed? As a student or first- time user to cloud computing, I've been there too. The idea of creating a chatbot or search app using GPT sounds exciting, but the process of setting up everything right from the vector database, provisioning OpenAl models, to integrating them,

Other day i was trying out Azure SQL for storing vector DB. After a POC i was able to get results on sub 1 second to get the results with 2 core serverless instance. It begs me to reconsider does dedicated Vector db really worth it ?
Here is the article on how to store and query vector data https://devblogs.microsoft.com/azure-sql/vector-similarity-search-with-azure-sql-database-and-openai/
In the same vein, I found this official library for parsing Microsoft T-SQL: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/azure-sql/programmatically-parsing-transact-sql-t-sql-with-the-scriptdom-parser/
I used it for a nasty global search & replace where a statement with quoted strings was sometimes embedded in quoted strings.
You can do it in any database as long as the corpus is small. But, yes for large numbers of vectors doing a brute force search doesn't scale well.

I’d also love a post-mortem on their guide to pirating the entire Harry Potter series for AI use. (https://devblogs.microsoft.com/azure-sql/langchain-with-sqlvectorstore-example/)
I’ve lost trust in anything Microsoft publishes anymore.
