There were several stories that broke over the last couple of weeks. It started with Uber and the travel ban. I don't want to get too into it so you can read about it here: (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/31/business/delete-uber.html).

Then there were several sexual harassment claims that were handled poorly. They can be read here: (https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=susan+fowler&*, https://medium.com/@amyvertino/my-name-is-not-amy-i-am-an-uber-survivor-c6d6541e632f#.pz1kvmlbc).

Their SVP left because of similar claims against him at Google (http://www.recode.net/2017/2/27/14745360/amit-singhal-google-uber).

Their VP of product also left under similar circumstances (http://www.recode.net/2017/3/3/14805384/uber-ed-baker-resigns-travis-kalanick).

Google is suing them over potential stolen IP (involves a former Google employee leaving to start Otto, which Uber promptly acquired). This has still yet to be settled but you can read about details here: (https://danielcompton.net/2017/03/14/uber-bombshell).

You quoted two paragraphs, none of which mentioned either Google missing backups, or unisupers account being deleted. I'm fact, what you quoted aligns perfectly with what I've been suggesting the whole time.

You're making a strong claim, I'm asking you to source it specifically. Instead you're taking a statement from which you can draw multiple conclusions, and picking one (that has been contradicted repeatedly) and telling me I'm unwilling to accept the facts. But they aren't facts, they're your interpretation of vague statements.

I'm happy to accept facts. Facts like "Data backups that were stored in Google Cloud Storage in the same region were not impacted by the deletion" are very easy to understand and difficult to misinterpret. Do you disagree?

Like, even the additional reporting the ars article links to (https://danielcompton.net/google-cloud-unisuper, https://x.com/milesward/status/1792909048830214607?t=Vu__q1hTF9F77ihvtXDFVA&s=19) basically contradicts both their and your conclusions. You're weirdly hung up on this.

This is one of my favorite quotes from technical comedic writing

      > “How can you make a reliable computer service?” the presenter will ask in an innocent voice before continuing, “It may be difficult if you can’t trust anything
and the entire concept of happiness is a lie designed by unseen overlords of
      endless deceptive power.”

If you didn't know Mickens[0] and you enjoyed this piece, you may want to peruse more of the same[1]. They're not all this good, but they are good.

[0] which I discovered through HN years ago, thanks folks

      > There are such things as USB monitors which actually take pixel data over the USB protocol

DisplayLink. It caught on for a while at least, especially in the case of some dock products that would output to a more conventional display interface but were USB DisplayLink adapters themselves. You’ll see tons of forum and Reddit posts about suboptimal CPU load and performance related to it.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayLink

It more recently was resurrected to overcome M1 limitations.

You could do 2x 4K displays with compression over a DisplayLink dock. Probably fine for UI stuff, maybe for video, not great for gaming.

The newer 14" and 16" models would drive them natively (or 2x 6K + 1x 4K with the higher end SoC) but then it's not much of a fair comparison by price. The single external display limit is only on the basic "M1" processor and not any of the Pro/Max/Ultra followups.

Sometimes it seems as if Cognitect just doesn't want people to use Clojure. It's like they looked at the results from the survey[0], created a tool that appears to address some of the main gripes that people have, and then proceeded to say "screw you" to all of the people that use Clojure commercially and may actually pay for Datomic...
