Bloomberry analyzes large sets of job postings and company data to study AI's effect on jobs, remote work, and software demand.
HN links its job-market data posts; one commenter questions the size of the 180M postings figure, while others praise the data and the remote jobs email.
> While I acknowledge not all job postings result in a hire, and some are ‘ghost jobs’, since I was comparing the relative growth in job titles, this didn’t seem like a big issue to me.
Uhhh... That's a very big issue. In addition, there is also a glaringly obvious analysis error here related to layoffs/attrition.
No offence but is this analysis vibe analyzed or something?
All this is actually measuring is how the number of job listings in a specific industry have changed globally. That's not the same thing as "what jobs AI is replacing" at all!
Like nurses decreasing 11%. There is 0% chance that AI is disrupting nurses. If anything, nursing is probably in more demand due to continual aging. It might just be that fewer people are quitting because of covid being over. The total number of nurses might be going up still!
Are we just upvoting anything with AI in the title now? HN used to be pretty respectful of scientific methods. The methodology section here just reads like personal resume filler for showing that you can use AI. I mean I get it and I admire the hustle, but the quality here is pretty lacking overall. https://bloomberry.com/blog/i-analyzed-180m-jobs-to-see-what-jobs-ai-is-actually-replacing-today/#methodology
There's anecdotes [0] [1], surveys [2], analyses [3], direct statements from companies after layoffs (Duolingo and Klarna for example), a decrease in job postings and a decrease in freelance work. But HN just shrugs and says none of this counts because it's not hard empirical data (as if data about jobs was ever reliable). So let's just keep pretending everything's fine and tell the people who lost their jobs to stop gaslighting us.

Definitely would recommend the Rands Slack channel though only catch is you need to be in some sort of engineering leadership role (not sure if the criteria changed though). But I’m sure if you ask nicely, they’ll let you in. Lots of channels related to career advice there
Also would recommend just going through this huge list of tech companies that use Slack to see if any of them fits you: https://bloomberry.com/data/slack/
I am building Bloomberry (https://bloomberry.com), an alternative to tools like BuiltWith/Wappalyzer to provide sales signals when companies subscribe or churn from over 1600 B2B tech products. Think backend/backoffice tools like Hubspot CRM, or Netsuite, or Microsoft 365, rather than frontend technologies like Wordpress or React.
Subscribed! This is great.
Also, I thoroughly enjoyed your article -- How AI is disrupting the demand for software engineers: data from 20M job postings (https://bloomberry.com/how-ai-is-disrupting-the-tech-job-market-data-from-20m-job-postings/). I've subscribed to your newsletter as well. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Great data source.
It's just that 180M seemed a bit high.
10x more than this one (also yours): https://bloomberry.com/blog/how-ai-is-disrupting-the-tech-job-market-data-from-20m-job-postings/
Btw. I'm not arguing about the quality of your posts, which I consider really good :).
