It's good to see that you've done your research, but I wouldn't discard the blogging route just because of those examples (so long as you have a good writer on your team).

Looking at the examples you gave, and tearing them down one by one:

http://blog.indeed.com/ - fairly basic design, and all the articles seem to be about themselves.

http://blog.simplyhired.com/ - again, mostly self-serving and/or random articles... "2009 Simply Hired Nugget Bowl"?? Who cares.

http://www.careerbuilder.com/jobseeker/blog - better content, but terrible design. It's painful to even look at, let alone read.

http://monster.typepad.com/ - better content again, but mostly ultra-short articles.

None of those are blogs that anyone sensible would read regularly, because they mostly regurgitate fairly boring or self-serving points without any new, useful ideas, and they're badly designed.

By "doing a blog" I don't mean doing a blog about you or about your business. I mean doing a blog about the topic that your business is related to, and making a genuine effort to write thoughtful articles that will influence the industry positively and/or be of interest to your target market.

I'd like to give our blog (http://www.woobius.com/scribbles/) as an example, but it's a little bit shambolic at the moment. Yet even so, the "thought leadership" articles we posted there generate some good hits and have generated some very good leads for us. Importantly, they've also massively upped our pagerank (because…

Yet another article which attempts to use Millennials as a homogeneous cohort to paint some broad-strokes policy questions to ponder. In fact, the generational cohorts are significantly less relevant than income [1] in correlating with where and how Americans live and work. Urban revival is driven by high-earning, middle-aged adults, working in downtown jobs that have seen the highest percentages of wage growth. But most population growth and job growth happens in the suburbs, where people with lower incomes fall, Millennial or otherwise.

The much talked-about phenomenon of urban cores gaining jobs faster than their suburbs was confined to certain cities [2], and was entirely untrue in others. In the general case, suburbs have consistently posted higher rates of employment growth [3][4], and command a higher absolute number of jobs. In fact, some of the highest growth areas are metropolitan areas that hardly even have an urban core that stands apart from its suburbs [5].

Suburbs everywhere are living on borrowed time, because as their infrastructure ages, they will develop the same problems circling back to lack of funding as the big cities that gave rise to them in the first place, but without the political and business clout that big cities mustered up to retain their relevance. As the infrastructure ages, the taxes will rise, discretionary funding on quality-of-live services like schools will be reduced, and the most wealthy will begin to move out into a new ring of…

      > Is this really a tech downturn? Yes, some companies are laying people off, with gig-economy things particularly hard hit, but the entire economy is a mess right now. It doesn't seem like tech is relatively more affected than other industries.

If anything, tech seems more insulated. Where I am (Calgary), software engineering job postings seem to have grown. Granted, many of them are not that great jobs for companies that are mostly desperate to get back up and running, but work is there which is more than can be said for other fields.

http://blog.indeed.com/2020/04/30/labor-market-spotlight-job-postings/ software is doing better than average.

@nocoder - Also, because I'm not a fan of Wikipedia as a source, here is a scientific paper on the gender differences between men and women that includes many sources itself, which should satisfy your curiosity on the subject. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3149680/#!po=42.5000

Here is a poll conducted by Indeed.com that also demonstrates the differences outlined by Demore in his memo. http://blog.indeed.com/2016/07/18/do-millennial-men-women-want-same-things-job/

      Do you need more examples?

We've got a Twitter account, and a Facebook friend's page.

I've leaned against doing a blog for two reasons:
      1) There are many other experts in this field who praise us & eclipse my knowledge (like http://jobsearch.about.com/)

      2) Other job search engine blogs have been miserable failures, based on number of comments & attention they've failed to attract (like http://blog.indeed.com/, http://blog.simplyhired.com/, http://www.careerbuilder.com/jobseeker/blog/ and http://monster.typepad.com/)

The article says "almost 70 percent of tech workers surveyed said that having a job actually located in Silicon Valley is "not important." This is from a survey on Indeed's site.[1] Note that this is 70% of tech employees in any location, not 70% in Silicon Valley.
