      Interesting article.
If we take it as a given that software programming talent (main requirement for success of fourth industrial revolution - also an assumption) is mainly genetic or some other inherent aptitude that is spread globally, then the number of African software engineers is vastly underrepresented in Silicon Valley or really anywhere.
That's the set of assumptions that drives these guys: https://andela.com/ They allow tech companies to outsource programming work to best of the best of Africa just like India before and Eastern Europe now.
Maybe they, and companies that believe in the same thesis, can add to solutions that overcome the lack of hardware problem. MITs $100 laptop challenge doesn't seem to have done the job.

Chirau, our goal is to build more computer labs in more than just Kenya. Kenya was easiest for me because I already had a school there to do the pilot program. As you know with Africa, every country is a whole new market place with its own set of challenges. I will let you when we expand to more countries, it will probably be Ethiopia or Tanzania next. In the meanwhile, if you are looking at a similar projects in other countries, here are a few https://www.iamthecode.org, http://www.gebeya.com/: Ethiopian, https://andela.com/, https://worldcomputerexchange.org/, https://thisisafrica.me/born-to-code-rwanda-launches-first-coding-academy.

I don't work for this company or have any affiliation but they are up to some really cool stuff in the food space. They develop a plant based coating for fresh produce that keeps it fresh for longer minimizing food waste and making produce easier and safer to distribute.

https://andela.com/ is another company that is really awesome and doing some cool stuff with helping make technology jobs more accessible to people all over Africa.

Nigerian techies are making great strides in the sector, overcoming challenges the environment and the system poses on them to shine among their peers. Great efforts have been made in the ecommerce and fintech sectors, but I will also like to mention Andela(https://andela.com/what-we-do/) which is doing a great job training and exposing African tech talents to the outside world. There are other platforms of that nature now, springing up across the nation.

Agreed. That's the central tenant of Andela [1]. I just got back from Kenya and was blown away by how talented the engineers were. Going to Nigeria next month and can't wait to compare and see what Zuck was seeing.
